Next Steps

After an initial contact by e-mail or phone, we will fix an appointment as soon as we can. Once we have booked our initial session, I will need at least 72 hours notice if you decide to cancel the initial session, otherwise the full fee is payable. For initial session, fee is expected to be paid in advance to secure the slot.

What will happen in my first appointment?

You don’t need to prepare anything for your first appointment, instead you just need to be relaxed. The initial meeting is an opportunity for us to meet and get to know each other. It will consist of talking about yourself, your difficulties and what you feel is important about your situation. I may ask you about your relationship, your work and other areas of your life, past and present. This would help me to get a clear picture of you and what you would like to get out of counselling so that I am in a better position to help you.

What will happen after my first appointment?

Embarking on counselling is a personal commitment and an important decision. You are free to choose whether you wish to continue with me after the initial session. If we decide to work together, we can work for an agreed number of sessions or on an open-ended basis. I will see you once a week, sessions take place at the same time of the same day in the week, as this consistency helps people get the most out of their therapy. This will be a dedicated on-going slot that is set aside for you. We will establish a “working agreement” with which will make clear the confidential nature of the sessions, the cancellation policy and establish our commitment to working together in regular weekly sessions.

What will counselling sessions be like?

Rather than start sessions with questions, I will usually follow your lead. If a particular situation was troubling you, we will explore and reflect on the thoughts and feelings related to your current situation, which will enable you to better understand yourself and your challenges so you can make better choices. If your problem is something that has been lingering for many years, I may need to appropriately and sensitively guide you to process those earlier traumas and life experiences. I will always walk alongside you and bear witness to what is happening to you, through my support you will find more creative and effective ways to manage the inevitable stress and pain that life brings, also discover and unravel the truths and meanings that lie already deep within yourself.
